Festival of St. Aubin
Friday 24th to Sunday 25th September
by Denise Waller

This year, inspired by the granite stone from Gaspé out side the Old Court House, the Festival highlighted St. Brelade's connections with Canada & France.

From 6.30 on Friday 24th there was an exhibition of French paintings in the café at Harbour Gallery; then at 7.30pm at St Aubin on the Hill Church, a Flower Festival & an exhibition of Photos linking Jersey & Gaspe was opened by Frank Falle. This was followed by Sea Shanties and other songs with Mark Bond, Andrew Parker and Friends. Both exhibitions, (as well as 'Roses from the Heart' at the Methodist Church), stayed open open until Wednesday 29th September.

On Saturday the Market outside the Parish Hall had a Maritime theme, followed at 3pm by a Canadian tea party to the strains of Fiddlers Green. The Jersey Lillies danced from 4pm until 5.30 after which Fiddlers Green continued to entertain.

At 6pm the St Aubin Sea Anglers Association held a fishing competition for both young and old, experienced and novice, with registration from 5.30pm at the Parish Hall. Also at 6pm the Rector blessed St Aubin and its connections.

On Sunday after a service of Celebration at 11pm at the Methodist church, there was a Vin d'Honneur and a light Salmon Buffet at the Parish Hall where Doug Ford gaive a talk on the connections between Jersey & Gaspé.

Over the weekend several restaurants provided a special celebratory menu, and the St Aubin's Boat Owners Asscociation flew Pirate Flags in recognition of St Aubin as the Patron Saint of anyone taken hostage.
