West Show
12 and 13 July 2008
In 1997, organisers of one of the Island’s annual cattle shows, the Three Western Parishes Show encompassing St Mary, St Peter and St Ouen, met to find a way of re-vitalising their show and attracting a wider audience. The Cattle Association of the Parish of St Brelade was invited to join them, and the West Show Association was formed and the West Show was born.
This year’s show, the sixth, takes place on the weekend of 12 and 13 July 2008, and will be based on the successful formula that has been adopted in earlier shows. Based around a cattle show on the first day of the show, the weekend celebrates everything that is good about Jersey’s rural traditions - past and present, and, in addition, features some top UK and French attractions.
Aims of the association
• To offer an environment in which to reflect on all that is good about Jersey’s rural traditions – past and present.
• To encourage an interest in country pursuits - for a population that predominantly lives or works in an urban environment.
• To offer a taste of temps passé - a gentler age – and of the “Jersey way”.
• To provide a focus for the community, and community spirit – attracting thousands of residents and tourists.
• To provide a full day’s entertainment for people of all ages - for a competitively priced entry fee.
