Double-Deckers return
Route 15 first to see the new buses in service
by Jeff Hathaway

THE Route 15 double decker Enviro 400 buses came into service on the 21 June. Jersey tested the double decker early last year on the same route, which goes to the airport through St Aubin and Les Quennevais.

The buses (similar to the one pictured opposite in City of Bristol colours) have a new and distinctive white and blue livery. Transport Minister, Mike Jackson, said the trial was a success and so it was agreed that the bus would be back on the route 15 this summer.

It is not the first time that Jersey has had double-decker buses which were first introduced in 1947. But they have not been seen on Jersey roads since the early 70’s when the last Leyland PD1 (pictured above) was taken out of service. The 2 new sixty-plus seat buses (as opposed to the forty-one seat single deckers) will increase capacity on the route and also provide extra facilities including Wi-Fi and extra luggage space.

Constable Jackson told La Baguette: "Passengers have welcomed the new Enviro 200 buses on the route. In an independently-conducted survey carried out in March this year, passengers expressed a satisfaction rate of 90% with them. We are hoping that St. Brelade parishioners be will be similarly impressed with the new double-deckers - perhaps with them coming out on top in the next survey!"
