The Volaw Jersey Junior Closed Tournament a success
by Betty Gavey

Following a very successful and enjoyable week hosting the Volaw Jersey Junior Closed Tournament, the Les Mielles Tennis Club saw out August with its own three day Junior tennis camp.
Autumn means a slightly quieter period but the weekly club sessions continue along with participation in external competitions.
Earlier in the year we lost our trophy to Grainville but on September 13th (yes 13th!) we hope to bring it home. September also means the end of our club summer league competition but we only have a few weeks break before play begins in the winter league.
A team of players made the trip to Guernsey over one of the hottest weekends in August and although we lost the cup a good time was had by all.
Naturally, all this tennis deserves to be rewarded. This will be in the form of our Annual Dinner at La Place in October followed a week later by a 12 hour Tennis-A-Thon. The club endeavours to support the community by providing social and competitive tennis for all ages and we are delighted to use our tennis in order to assist others. This year we will be raising funds for a local cancer charity. Our Annual General Meeting is on Friday 13th November at 7.30pm at the club house and anyone wishing to attend will receive a warm welcome. We still have two Junior Club Tournaments to enjoy, one in November and the other just before Christmas.

Memberships are also reduced by 50% from 1st September so what better incentive to join in the fun.
New members are always welcome and further information on the tennis club may be obtained from Mrs Betty Gavey, Membership Secretary, telephone 742458 or alternatively, pop up to a Club Session on a Sunday morning 10am to 12.30pm or a Wednesday evening 6.15pm to 8pm.
