La Moye pupil, Rowan Chateau aged 10, starts petition for ice rink
by Jeff Hathaway

Rowan began the campaign following an ice skating show held on a temporary rink in St Helier in July and has already secured the support of St Helier Constable Simon Crowcroft in her proposal for the rink to be constructed on the former swimming pool site at Fort Regent.
Her understandably proud parent's, Christophe and Julie, said she has been a devoted dancer from an early age but is also now passionate about ice skating ever since her first taste this summer.
Mr Chateau said: "For Rowan to say she would give up some of her dancing was something of a surprise, but she clearly loves skating and seemed determined to do something about getting a permanent facility for the Island." Rowan has both an internet and paper petition which proposes a permanent ice rink at Fort Regent.
A States scrutiny panel is currently reviewing the future use of Fort Regent, including the former swimming pool which was closed six years ago. Rowan said: "Everyone I spoke to said it would be a great idea, but no one did anything about it, so I decided to see what I could do myself. My Dad helped me set up a Facebook group so we could get some feedback and also set up the online and paper petition”. Rowan has been collecting signatures from both sources. Rowan also told La Baguette that she has secured the support of Lord Jersey and Kyran Bracken and intend to write letters to the headteachers of the islands primary schools.
