Macauley Raven wins top honours in JFU Veg Garden Competition
by Jeff Hathaway

Les Quennevais School has once again flourished and have taken the top prize for the secondary section of this year’s Jersey Farmers’ Union Vegetable Garden Competition.
The vegetable garden chosen by the judge is a small plot located within the ongoing QGardens project in St. Brelades Bay. The plot was predominantly created by year 8 student Macauley Raven under the guidance of teaching assistant Fleur Sharman. Old railway sleepers, donated by Jason Simon from Simon Sand & Gravel have been used to section off the allotment which currently has pumpkins, courgettes, leeks, beetroots, parsnips, carrots and onions successfully growing in it. Earlier on in the summer a fine crop of Jersey Royals were dug and enjoyed by members of staff and students at school.
This is Macauley’s second year of having the opportunity to grow vegetables at Q.Gardens which seems to go from strength to strength.
