Once again, former St. Brelade Constable Max De La Haye had a very successful display of dahlias in the Summer Horticultural Show, organised by the Jersey Royal Agricultural & Horticultural Society.
His display of blooms, staged on an area measuring six feet by two and a half feet, comprised of a group of twelve different named varieties which included giant, mediums, small, decoratives, ball and semi-cactus, in a variety of both single and bi-colour forms.
For his passion in the art of growing and exhibiting dahlias Max was awarded the Dahlia Cup and also the H.G. Shepard Memorial Trophy for ‘Best Exhibit in Show’ for the third consecutive year.
A very happy Max told La Baguette: “ It has not been the best ever year for growing dahlias, and constant late night slug patrols have been required to ensure undamaged blooms suitable for exhibit. I am pleased it was all so worthwhile and I am delighted to have won two trophies on this occasion”
