St. Aubin Residents Assn
by Margaret Holland Prior
There was disappointment last December when the Parish announced that it, unfortunately, lacked the budget for Christmas lights, decorations and a tree for St. Aubin. This concerned people from other parts of the island who visited St. Aubin, as well as the residents and traders in the area.
Following the St. Aubin Forum, held last January, it was decided that the St. Aubin Residents’ Association would hold a Summer Party and raffle to help raise funds for decorations in 2008.
Ilsa Khakhria took on the role of gathering raffle prizes which the traders in St. Aubin generously offered.
Tickets were sold at various locations around the village and at the Parish Hall. Some individuals in the Parish also gave their time selling tickets in and around the St. Aubin bars and restaurants, at work and at the Saturday Market,
The St. Aubin Summer Party took place at the Parish Hall on the 12th July with some 50 people attending. The Hall was decorated with balloons and streamers, and tea lights on the tables. Parish caretaker, Jane, prepared an amazing buffet which was enjoyed by all. The bar was well stocked with Pimms, wine and soft drinks.
Two children drew the tickets for the Raffle Draw, which Murray Norton hosted. He also entertained guests with his unique observations on the village. The event raised just over £2,500; a tremendous effort by all those involved
With so many people enjoying the event, a Christmas Party has been planned. The Parish Hall is booked for 28th November and the Association look forward to seeing you there to celebrate the festive season - and turn on the lights!.
