After the high tides and storms of the spring, we noticed that Ouaisne Common had banks of pieces of rope and tiny broken bits of plastic washed up close to the path.
John Pinel, Countryside Manager, had several groups working there in the early part of the summer. The Probation Service also spent long hours clearing up, and there was more to be done.
So, on a wet and blustery Sunday, while others were sitting comfortably in front of their telly cheering on their favourites at Wimbledon or in the Grand Prix, six of us went to work.
We spent two and a half hours raking, sorting and bagging up an assortment of tiny bits of plastic, bottle tops, lighters and many other items. Finally the weather became too bad, with squalls of rain sweeping in over the Bay. We staggered back to the car park, sodden but with that well done feel; our halos sparkling!
