The moment before La Baguette goes to press I am pleased and honoured to have been nominated and declared Connétable of St Brelade for a second term.
It is often said that that it takes three years to learn one’s way around the complexities of our administration and with experience I can agree. I now feel better equipped to cultivate the seeds sown over the last three years and develop new projects for our diverse community. I have discovered that very often minor changes can improve the quality of life for parishioners and I am keen to progress traffic calming measures in key areas.
There are continuing difficulties within the parish concerning excess alcohol consumption amongst some youth. Whilst there is no easy remedy for this social plague I feel that the primary attention must be directed toward some parents who have a tendency to absolve themselves of their responsibilities. Easy availability of alcohol to children who often are aided by their peers, and sometimes parents, is a target for attention.
I look forward to working with you all for the next three years. I need you to let me know of your concerns and urge you not to hesitate to contact me at the Parish Hall, by phone, email or in person.
