Rain didn’t dampen their spirits! With the support of Mike Stentiford, Jersey National Trust and John Pinel, Countryside Manager, The Jersey Field Squadron, under the leadership of Capt Richard Beck, have been working at Pont Marquet.
In early August The Royal Engineers removed sludge from the ponds to aid the better flow of water down the valley; it will help the wildlife and, it is hoped, that ducks will return. It was a messy sludgy sort of job!
The sludge was put into large sacks, donated by Normans and Pentagon, left to drain then moved to a nearby field. This sludge is "clean" and the Waste Products section of TTS gave permission for removal to agricultural land.
Regal Construction generously donated and laid hoggin, helping restore the Railway Walk track to its previous good state .
At the end of August a group of volunteers from NatWest Bank spent a Friday helping to clear the scrub around the ponds. Later in the year it is hoped another NatWest group will continue the work.
