Sunny September weather shows St. Brelade off in all her Glory

By Julian Bernstein

A wonderful visit from the members of the twinning association of Granville was held recently here in St. Brelade. The French party visited the War Tunnels and then we had a Vin d’Honneur in the wonderful setting of the Theatre at Reg Langlois’s garden Badger’s Holt. The sun shone on the group and the Connétable accompanied by the wife of the Mayor of Granville, Mme Verdier, unveiled the new signs that have been made for the parish. The signs have been put up at the entrance to the Parish on the Route de la Haule and the Route de Quennevais. After a lovely Lunch at the Atlantic Hotel we showed our French visitors the beauty of St. Brelade Bay and the Parish Church. Many of our local members joined in the day.
We are keen that more parishioners take an interest and engage in the associations many activities. Membership is currently set at just £5 per person and £10 for a family and is valid from January to January. The next AGM of the Association will be in March 2008 at the Parish Hall and will be followed by a dinner cooked and served by our committee.
St. Brelade will visit Granville in the late spring of 2008 for a full day, hopefully on a Saturday to allow the visitors to shop at the superb market.
The first big event that will involve the Twinning Association next year will be the Carnival Procession in Granville over Mardi Gras starting on the weekend of February 2nd 2008. Miss St. Brelade will again ride on a float and members are invited to join in the fun as 10,000 visitors fill the streets of the old town.
Later on next year is the Inter-Jumelage Games, won in France in 2006 by joint teams of Granville and St. Brelade, to be held in St. Saviour in July 2008.
For more information on all the activities of the Twinning Association please contact Julian Bernstein on 743422. There are application forms and Twinning Badges at the Parish Hall.
