La Moye School go ‘a la francais’

Year 6 pupils at La Moye School report.
Last September La Moye School went to France for their annual trip to Chateau du Tertre. Year 6 pupils had a wonderful time and learned so much from their experiences of being in a foreign country and away from home for 5 days.

Monday 17th September: On Monday morning we all arrived at the harbour before 7:45 am. We got on the boat at about 8:45 am and the boat ride was about an hour and a half. When we got to France we got on a coach which took us to the British War Cemetery in Bayeux and had lunch there. We also looked around the cemetery itself before we then continued our journey to Arromanches to visit the D-Day landing beaches. At around 7:00 pm we arrived at Chateau Du Tertre which was our base for the week. We quickly unpacked, had dinner, were shown round the base before we finally went to bed after a long day.
Tuesday 18th September:
On Tuesday morning after a good night sleep we had breakfast and went on to a butter farm where we learned how to make butter. Some of us bought plum, apple or quince jam. When we got back to the base we all took part in activities. All of us did the mud course and two groups did abseiling and two groups did trapeze. After that we all had dinner in the cafeteria followed by Mini-Olympics where we took part in lots of exciting games. Finally we all went to bed at about 9:30pm.
Wednesday 19th September:
On Wednesday we went to Flers Market and were able to spend some of our Euros. Most of us bought LOADS!!! After the market we headed back to Chateau Du Tertre and took part in activities, for example canoeing, trapeze and archery. Later on we all went to dinner and the evening finished with a disco where we danced our heads off!!!!
Thursday 20th September:
On Thursday morning we went to a local bakery. We learned how to make croissants before we got to taste some. After that we had a town trail quiz. followed by lunch by the river. We then went back to the base for activities again- abseiling, archery and canoeing. Finally after dinner we packed our bags and finished the evening with a campfire where we sang lots of songs.
Friday 21st September [the last day!!!!]:
On Friday we got up and went to breakfast early and left Chateau Du Tertre. We headed to the St. Malo Grand Aquarium and went into it a bit earlier than expected. When we came out, we had our lunch on a grassy area outside the Aquarium and had about an hour’s play after. Later on we visited the Hyper Market [La Madelaine] and had an hour to get gifts, sweets etc. We then travelled to the harbour at and departed by boat back to Jersey.
