Chevalier Foundation – appeal
Additional funds required to keep plans for Maison St. Brelade on track.
The Chevalier Foundation is a registered charity originally funded by the generosity of two residents of St. Brelade, and founded by the late John Hamon Chevalier in 1971, Connétable of the Parish for 12 years, and chairman of the Trust up to the time of his death in 1974.
Although remaining little known, the Trust exists for the purpose of helping the needy and aged over and above the benefits that are provided by parochial authorities. Membership of the Council is restricted to past and present residents of the Parish who have a genuine interest in the objects of the foundation.
The Trust was responsible for the purchase of land for the construction, by the Parish, of Maison St. Brelade in 1976, and granted the Parish a sum of money towards the building of this important facility. Both lounges were also furnished by contributions from the Trust.
In its endeavour to continue to help the needy, the Council are issuing an appeal for additional funding in order to provide the Trust, and the Parish, with the reserves necessary to continue the work started in 1971, and principally for the upgrading of Maison St. Brelade.
The recently re-elected Council is composed of: Oscar P. Chevalier (Chairman), John Gready (Hon.Treasurer), Laurence Le Brocq (Hon. Secretary), Brian Boutillier, Norman Lucas, Martyn Le Brocq, Philip Chevalier, Jonathan Gready, Max de la Haye, and present Parish Connetable, Mike Jackson.
