Sunday 17th August. Everyone is invited to come along.
by Caryll McFadyen of the RNLI
The annual Blessing the Waters Service will take place at St Aubin’s Harbour on Sunday 17th August 2008 at 6pm.
All are invited to meet on the South Pier where the St Helier Lifeboat the "Alexander Coutanche" will be moored alongside for this short service.
The Reverend Judith Davey will lead the Service. She will board the lifeboat for a short trip around the harbour after which the boats will be blessed. There will be one or two hymns sung, prayers and the Blessing.
The Lifeboat and the Jersey Lifeboat Guild have been involved continuously since 1983 and over £3,500 has been raised for the work of the RNLI.
Over the years the Salvation Army, the Band of the Island of Jersey and an organist with an electronic organ, has supplied music. Unfortunately this no longer happens, as the musicians do not want their instruments to be damaged by inclement weather.
On one notable occasion in 1993 the Lifeboat carried out the rescue of a windsurfer en route to St Aubin!
Members of the RNLI will be making a collection that, this year, will go towards the Appeal for the new St Helier Lifeboat.
