St. Brelade in Bloom is looking for more medals in 2008
Thank you to all who so patiently accepted my enthusiasm and gentle bullying to encourage you to hang flowering baskets and plant up tubs, and to keep them watered!
I expect you’ve read a little about The Britain in Bloom competition in the JEP last month. The title is misleading because it is far more than just pretty flowers.
Its all about the community working together. The Judges look at the management of natural areas, for example Les Creux; waste management and community involvement to encourage recycling and raising the quality of the local environment. Then there are the colourful displays and permanent landscaping in public gardens, sea fronts, businesses, guest accommodation and private homes.
The most important factor is community involvement. This year we had a group from Les Quennevais School working on a woodland project behind St Brelade’s Church Hall and in contrast, the ladies at Maison St Brelade knitting flowers for a display at Harbour Gallery.
The Parish Hall achieved a gold certificate and the Parish silver. Preparations are underway for next year’s competition and the Connetable will be asking for sponsorship and support.
But there’s much more we can do. We have won through to the finals twice in the past ten years and it would be good to do it again next year with your help ! Please contact the Parish Hall for details.
